Distance & Accuracy Casting Contest
Paco Sauceda won the distance casting contest at 93’ 6”. Winning the accuracy casting competition at 130 points was Mark Ernst. Both Paco and Mark won a Fly Box that was generously donated by Fatties on the Fly and a half-day guided trip with owner Ben Tabor on the Brazos or Paluxy River.
Orvis Big Trout Contest Heat Results
Setting a singular heat record, Kevin Marlow and Chad Ringler came home as heat winners in the most fish caught in a heat netting a whopping 16 fish during the contest. Tanner Ingram caught the largest trout at 19.5”.
Heat 2 was a nail-biter for contestants and spectators alike that required a “Fish-Off” for most fish caught during the heat. The winners were Jerod Brazeal and Jordan Brazeal who netted four fish in the round tying with Daniel Tatum and Nolan Tatum who also pulled in four fish. Jerod and Jordan were the first team to catch an additional fish in the fish-off making them the winners of Heat 2. Les Thomas caught the largest trout at 18.5 inches which were also the first Golden Trout giving him two individual heat prizes. Doug Laing, Les’ brother, and fishing partner went over the rock outcrop to net the winning golden adding some excitement to the round. Doug happens to be a 75-year-old army vet who recently fully recovered from heart surgery enabling him to fish full speed again!
Not to be intimidated by the new 6-year record caught in the earlier heat, Father-son team Bill Payeur and Nate Payeur of Heat 3 thrilled the crowd with a record-setting 19 fish caught in a singular heat. Bill was also awarded the biggest fish caught in Heat 3 at 16”.
The winners of Heat 4, catching nine fish, went to husband and wife duo Adam and Angela Tate. The biggest fish caught for Heat 4 went to J. Matt Wilkinson at 17.75 and that same fish was a beautiful Golden Trout earning him both the individual prizes for Heat 4.

Grand Prize Winners
The Grand Prize for Most Fish Caught went to Bill Payeur and Nate Payeur who pulled in a record-breaking 19 fish during Heat 3. This is the most a team has caught in a singular heat in the 6-year history of TRWD Flyfest. Each went home with $200, an Orvis Sling Pack, and a grand prize trophy for bragging rights.
Tanner Ingram of Heat 1 took home the grand prize for the biggest fish caught at 19.5 inches. Tanner went home with $200, an Orvis Sling Pack, and the grand prize trophy!
Between each heat and the fish off, contestants netted a total of 106 trout throughout the day!
